Programs

Youth

  • Brain Builders – Tutoring services for children throughout Western New York. Certified teachers develop individualized learning plans for each student and then work with children in small groups to improve core skills in reading and math.
  • STAR -The STAR program is for children ages five through twelve. Operating year-round with activities after school during the school year and all day during the summer, the STAR program engages children with educational and enrichment activities. Photography, yoga, belly dancing, drumming chess, reading, and martial arts are likely activities, along with preparing and eating snacks, completing homework, making friends and having fun.



Seniors

  • Senior Activity Center – CEM offers a variety of activities for seniors in the community from sewing writing groups, to playing bingo and shuffleboard. We organize day trips to restaurants and for shopping. We bring in speakers. Fun is the order of the day with the seniors no matter what they are doing on any given day.
  • Senior Case Management – CEM provides case management services for frail, homebound seniors living on Buffalo’s West Side. Staff members complete a thorough assessment of the client and then develop care plans to provide necessary supports to keep seniors safe, well, and in their homes as long as possible.



Emergency Food Service

  • Loaves & Fishes Dining Room – Loaves & Fishes is a free lunch program for anyone in need. Open Monday through Friday from 11:30 – 12:45 at the corner of Elmwood and Lafayette Avenues, the program serves an average of 32,000 meals per year. It is also a point of entry for emergency services providing referrals and assistance to individuals and families not sure where to turn in times of crisis.
  • Potter’s Pantry & Family Resource Center – The Potter’s Pantry provides an emergency supply of groceries to families in need living in the 14213 ZIP code. The pantry is open Saturdays from 10:00 – 2:00. Clients do not need referrals. In addition the pantry provides information about applying for food stamps, registering for head Start, signing up for Child Health Plus and other services available to individuals and families in need.
