Volunteer Opportunities

We always need volunteers to help make our programs effective. There are opportunities for long or shorter-term commitments. Some of our current opportunities are listed below. If you have something to share with our community and are not sure where you might fit in, please contact us and we will work with you to find your place.

Loaves & Fishes Dining Room *temporarily out of commission until further notice*

· Volunteers usually commit to one day each week and work from 9:00 AM – through 1:00 PM. The work includes preparing, serving and cleaning up from lunch. Volunteers are normally at least 15 to participate.
· Youth groups or young people under age 15 are welcome to call the program coordinator, Anne Harrington, to make arrangements to support the work of the dining room.
· Students, church groups, or businesses often have drives to co9llect supplies for the dining room. We are always in need of the following items: paper towels, napkins, 6-inch paper plates, paper cups, bottled water, sugar, coffee, tea, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, spices, salt & pepper, latex or vinyl gloves, laundry soap, dish soap, bleach, rubber gloves and similar items.
· One of our greatest needs is cash. Students, church groups, businesses, families are all welcome to sponsor fund-raising events for the dining room. Dress down days, raffles, car washes, dinners, all kinds of events lend themselves to raising money for the hungry in our community. If you are interested in holding an event for us, let us know and we will help get the word out.

Potter’s Pantry & Family Resource Center

· Volunteers are needed on Saturdays from 9:00 – 2:30 to help distribute food.
· Volunteers are needed on Thursday afternoons to unload food from the Food Bank truck and sort and stack it in the pantry storage area.
· Volunteers are needed once a month to help with the Food Express Truck delivery. The truck usually comes on the 2nd Thursday of the month. Volunteers are needed from 1:30 PM through 4:00 PM.
· Groups are welcome to sponsor food drives for the pantry. We are always in need of non-perishable items to distribute to our patrons. Canned and dry goods, are always welcome as we supplement the foods we receive from the Food Bank of WNY.
· Fund-raising events are always welcome for the food pantry as well. If you would like to sponsor and event to raise cash for the pantry, please get in touch with us.


· This program is an after school enrichment and education program and summer day program for kids in elementary and middle school. Volunteers for this program are required to pass a criminal background check and a medical screening. Volunteers are needed during program hours to work with young people on specific academic areas for tutoring and leadership. Volunteers also play games with kids, teach particular skills like knitting, chess, sewing and similar activities. Hours and activities must be arranged with the program coordinators.

Senior Chore Aide

· Volunteers are needed for helping with clients utilizing our Senior Case Management services. Volunteers help with tasks around the home that are not easily done by the client without help. These tasks may include a variety of cleaning assistance and potentially some pet care. This position requires a volunteer to be of at least 21 years of age, and have the ability to access transportation to appointments. A background check and commitment of at least one year to the position will also be requested. The hours for this position may be decided upon in accordance with a volunteer’s availability.


· The CEM Board of Directors has slots available for those who would like to commit to leading the organization. The Board of Directors meets monthly from September through June and other times as necessary. Meetings are on the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 PM. Meetings last about two hours. Members of the board also have opportunity to lead special projects, fund-raising events, and share the story of the organization. If you are interested in serving on the board, please contact the executive director.
· Volunteers are welcome to plan and carry-out events to raise funds for the whole organization or particular projects. CEM staff are able to provide information, contact lists, and limited administrative support for events outside groups sponsor. If you are interested in doing something of this sort, please contact the executive director.
